Astronomers Are About to Make a Big Deal About Something in the Milky Way

Today is the big day for the announcement! Check back to ScienceAlert's home page at about 08:40 a.m. EDT, or 12:40 a.m. UTC, for a live blog of the press conference.

Read on to find out what we believe we can expect. The European Southern Observatory (ESO) will offer fresh facts about our Milky Way to the world in two weeks.

It's anyone's guess what the announcement will be, but based on what we know about their recent efforts, there's reason to be excited.

The results being presented come from the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) project, which produced the first-ever image of a black hole in 2019.

The EHT project has been researching the Milky Way's heart, which is most likely home to a supermassive black hole known as Sagittarius A*, for years.

They're making a huge deal out of whatever they've discovered.
