May tap diesel reserve
Officials from Biden's office are looking into stockpiling diesel to help with the shortfall.
An official with knowledge of the situation revealed to The Hill on Monday that the Biden administration is in talks to dip into a government diesel reserve to ease energy shortages.
According to the official, an interagency committee has been monitoring East Coast diesel supply and formulating policy recommendations to address them.
"If situations worsen, the team has drafted emergency declarations for the President to sanction release from the Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve," they added.
"We'd call this a stopgap measure to address short-term supply shortages."
The Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve, established in 2000, is a 1 million barrel home heating oil reserve located in the Northeast.
