NASA admits "something unusual is going on"

A new research based on 30 years of Hubble Space Telescope data has been hailed as the most precise measurement of the expansion to date.

Astronomers have discovered a twist in recent years, owing to data from Hubble and other telescopes.

A disagreement between the expansion rate detected in the local universe and independent measurements from shortly after the big bang.

"The explanation of this mismatch remains a mystery," NASA says in a statement.

However, Hubble data, which includes a variety of cosmic objects that act as distance markers, supports the notion that something strange is happening, maybe involving brand new physics."

"From the gold standard of telescopes and cosmic mile markers, you're obtaining the most precise gauge of the universe's expansion rate,".
