a former police officer was apprehended outside the US Capitol.

According to the US Capitol Police, a retired New York police officer was charged on Friday with unlawful possession of high-capacity magazines and unregistered ammunition.

According to the agency, officers apprehended Jerome Felipe of Michigan at 5 a.m. ET on Friday. 

 According to a USCP statement, Felipe had parked his 2017 Dodge Challenger near the Capitol and permitted officials to search it.

According to the statement, officers discovered a "BB gun, two ballistic vests, many high capacity magazines, and additional ammo in the car."

Felipe, 53, presented officers with a phoney INTERPOL badge bearing the words "Department of the INTERPOL" and claimed to be a criminal investigator with the agency

according to USCP.The incident is still being investigated.
