Simple substitutions for lower-carb meals

Cutting down on the sugars that come with our favorite foods doesn't have to be a chore, whether you're watching your carbohydrate levels for health reasons or just want to drop a few pounds.

While we all love potatoes, pasta, and desserts (who doesn't? ), you'll be surprised at how simple and tasty low-carb meals can be when you try these stodge-free alternatives.

By choosing oven-baked fries over deep-fried, you're already saving calories and fat.

Make zucchini baked fries instead of potato baked fries to cut calories and fat even further, as well as carbohydrates.

They're easy to make: flour, egg, and panko breadcrumbs coat cut zucchini sticks. Bake until golden on an oiled baking sheet at 400°F (200°C).

Instead, a handful of incredibly tasty Parmesan chips — high in calcium but low in carbohydrates – will suffice.
