After suspending political ads in 2020, Spotify is bringing them back.

Following increasing criticism of the online dissemination of disinformation during the 2020 election campaign, Spotify removed all political adverts from the platform.

Spotify issued a statement at the time, vowing to improve their vetting process before reintroducing political adverts.

According to Protocol, the corporation revealed this week that political ads are gradually returning to the digital streaming platform.

"We've spent the last two years refining and enhancing our procedures, systems, and tools to appropriately validate and monitor this content, following our halt of political ads in early 2020

a Spotify representative said in a statement. "In the United States, we are currently selling select political adverts in opted-in third-party podcasts through the Spotify Audience Network."

According to reports, the corporation sent out an internal memo stating that it will not accept ads from issue-based organisations, will only host commercials from known candidates
