When you eat oatmeal, what happens to your cholesterol?

Oatmeal is well-known for being a natural cholesterol-lowering food. This is correct!

When you examine all of the changes that occur in different forms of cholesterol in your body, it becomes a little more complicated.

You will obtain four separate figures when your cholesterol test work is drawn: LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides.

Each of these figures tells a distinct narrative. Because it can be increased in those with heart disease, LDL cholesterol is commonly referred to as "bad" cholesterol.

HDL, on the other hand, is "good cholesterol" because it helps the body "clean up" cholesterol.

Total cholesterol is the sum of all the different forms of cholesterol found in the body.
